About the Institute
Industrial Training Institute, Jorhat is the oldest and the biggest institute of its kind in the entire North Eastern Region of India. Situated at a convenient location within Jorhat Town, the institute is built over a plot of land measuring 27 bighas 1 katha and 17 lechas by the side of Mariani Road near Jorhat Town Railway Station. The institute also has an additional plot of land of about 11 bighas towards south of the main campus, where a playground and a boys’ hostel are located
The institute was originally established as a War Technical Institute in the year 1939 by the British Govt. in India. In the year 1947, a Technical Institute was shifted from Shillong and was amalgamated with the existing institute through the initiatives of Ali Akbar Haidari, the then Governor of Assam and Ananda Chandra Baruah (popularly known as Bokul Bonor Kobi), a literary genius who hailed from Jorhat.
